SLUT SHAMING GEEZERS

(by Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Jonathan Mann)
(additional verses by RBG and Will Quale)

Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. 573 U.S. 682 (2014)
Justice Ginsburg, dissenting.

Religious organizations exist to
foster the interests of
persons subscribing to the same religious
faith.

Not so of for-profit corporations.
Workers who sustain these operations are not
drawn from one religious
community.

It bears note that the cost of an IUD is
nearly equivalent __ to a
month's full-time pay for
workers making Minimum Wage.

	Oh, the Court, I fear, __ has
	ventured into a minefield ... full of
	slut-shaming geezers and
	religious extremism;

	Oh, one thing's clear: __ This
	fight isn't over;
	We've got to stand together for
	what we know is right.

Any decision to use contraceptives [is]
not propelled by the Government.
[It's] the woman's autonomous choice informed by her
[doctor].

Approving some religious claims while
deeming others unworthy could be
perceived as favoring one religion over
another.

Would the exemption extend to blood transfusions,
antidepressants, and anesthesia,
pills coated with gelatin, and
vaccinations?

	Woah, now, the Court, I fear, __ has
	ventured into a minefield ... full of
	slut-shaming geezers and
	religious extremism;

	Oh, one thing's clear: __ This
	fight isn't over;
	We've got to stand together for
	what we know is right.

*****

In a decision of startling breadth the Court holds
that corporations can opt out of any law
they judge incompatible with their
sincerely held religious beliefs.

Persuaded that Congress enacted [this law]
to serve a far less radical purpose,
Mindful of the havoc the Court's judgment can
introduce, I dissent.

	The Court, I fear, __ has
	ventured into a minefield ... full of
	slut-shaming geezers and
	religious extremism;

	Oh, one thing's clear: __ This
	fight isn't over;
	We've got to stand together for
	what we know is right.
